Last weekend’s ENZED Australian Top Fuel Championships round at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway also presented Round Five of the 2009/2010 Rocket Allstars Racing Series for the eleven ANDRA Sportsman brackets. The Rocket Allstars Racing Series (RARS) is run over seven rounds in Perth, Sydney, Ipswich and Mackay. Prior to the final round at the Winternationals in June, racers may keep their two best results, for a maximum of 200 prior to the finals. These are added to points accrued at the final round to determine the Australian Champions.
A win from Brisbane’s Justin Walshe in RARS Competition added 60 points to his total, moving him to within 20 points of the lead, held jointly by Victorian Jason Maggs and Queensland’s Graham Frawley on 180 points each. With two rounds to go the series win remains within the reach of eleven drivers.

With a Runner Up finish on Sunday night, defending Champion Nino Cavallo from Victoria moved in to second place, 30 points behind current RARS Super Stock leader, Brisbane driver Omar Sedmak. Perth’s Graeme Simms didn’t contest the Willowbank round but he holds third place, just 10 points behind Sedmak.

Queensland rider Dave Rundmann reached the maximum point’s tally of 200 after a win in RARS Competition Bike at Willowbank. Brisbane rider Shane Homes and Sydney’s Geoff Kempe, second and third respectively, did not improve their positions, but they remain well in touch with the championship.

Reigning Australian Champion, Queensland’s Christine Steffens, was unable to contest RARS Supercharged Outlaws at her home round after her car was damaged in a transport accident. Event winner Chris Loy from Warwick scored his first points at Willowbank so Steffens remained in first place, 60 points ahead of fellow Queenslander Bryan Marsden, who moved from fourth to second after a Runner Up finish.

Brisbane’s Kelly Corbett also retained her lead in RARS Modified without adding points from the Willowbank round. Rockhampton driver Dave Ferricks added 40 points to his total and moved to second place, tied with fellow Queenslander Phil Bellert who won the Willowbank event, 40 points behind Corbett.

After winning the first two rounds this season, Queensland driver Darren Deoblien has been on maximum 200 points in RARS Super Sedan since September 2009. He maintains the lead, shortened to 20 points after a win from Queensland’s Tony Whyatt at Willowbank. Despite a semi final finish, third placed Steven Fowler from Newcastle did not improve his points total. A win at the Westernationals leaves Phil Partridge, also from NSW, tied with Fowler on 150.

Andrew Roberts from Surfers Paradise did not feature in the Willowbank RARS Modified Bike results but a win in Perth and a quarter final finish at the Blown Alcohol Championships round last August means he still holds the championship lead. A win for NSW rider Brian Vernon last weekend added only 40 points to his total but that moved him to withi 20 points of the leader. Third, on 140 points is Sydney’s Darren Shepherd.

Trevor Davis and Terri Sander, both from Queensland, still hold first and second place respectively in RARS Super Street, even though neither added to their points total last weekend. Good performances from Lucas Holz and Darrell Wiliams, also both from Brisbane, moved them into joint second place with Sander on 140 points, just 30 behind the leader.

The much travelled Caleb Oberg still holds the RARS Junior Dragster lead with the perfect score, but he’s only 20 points ahead of Willowbank winner Simone Paine from NSW. Dakota Ward took the Runner Up spot and moved up to third in the points on 160, 10 ahead of brother Obe on 150 in fourth.

A Runner Up finish at Willowbank moved local Dale O’Dwyer to the lead in RARS Super Gas, 20 ahead of fellow Queenslander Neil Maxwell and Willowbank Winner Darryl Stephen from NSW. Tied for third spot on 120 points each are Frank Stivala and Daniel Fardella, both from NSW.
